I set the school up back in the early 1990s and have been training and examining RYA Yachtmaster candidates ever since. I have gained over 200,000 sea miles during this time and will ensure that you get the very best training experience, together with the best possible chance of passing your RYA Yachtmaster exam.
At Capital we never exceed a 3:1 Instructor to student ratio. We use a Nelson 34twin engine semi displacement training boat renowned sea keeping abilities and fitted with state-of-the-art Ray marine Electronics.
Capital will provide each student with a navigation pack for the duration of the course including:
- Up to date charts of the area
- A current almanac
- Navigation plotter, dividers and reference books
- An i pad for easy access to on board electronic navigation and radar
What’s included: Capital will provide you with 5 days of instruction, usually Monday to Friday which will help to prepare you for the examination on day 6. We only take a maximum of three students and for many courses there will only be two. Capital will provide on-board light refreshments during the day and when we do the night training exercise a full evening meal will be provided. The course fees are fully inclusive for the full six days including fuel and examiners expenses, no other charges will be made, except the cost of your RYA exam fee payable to the RYA, currently £256.00.
Location: All our training courses will operate from Lymington Yacht Haven; this location is ideal as we use the protected waters of the Solent. Secure parking is available on site for the duration of your course and local accommodation can be found close by.
Course Overview:I will tailor the course to your specific needs having first assessed your strengths and weaknesses. During the week we will brush up your skills on all the following:
- pilot age day and night
- close quarters boat handling
- skippering techniques, Bridge command and control skills
- navigation in restricted visibility, use of radar and electronics
- passage planning
- man overboard recovery
Previous Experience Required: 50 days aboard, 5 days as skipper, 2500 miles logged, 5 passages of over 60 miles including 2 overnight and 2 as skipper (Half the qualifying sea-time must have been conducted in tidal waters). SRC/VHF radio operators’ certificate and a valid first aid certificate.
Duration: 5-6 Days with a maximum of 3 students per boat. Comprises of 5 days preparation and 1 day exam.If we have only 1 student the preparation time will be reduced to 2 – 3 days with a pro rata reduction in cost, for two students we will run the full five days.
Course options: This Yachtmaster preparation course can be taken either:
- On our school boat on the course dates provided
- For exclusive groups we can provide our school boat and you choose the dates
- On your own boat, we come to you
