The RYA Dayskipper practical course is a really great course, it provides the basic building blocks for safe and enjoyable motor cruising and will help you to gain both confidence and ability. There is no pressure of exams, and we will patiently guide you through the syllabus so that by the end of the course you will be confident to take responsibility of a motor cruiser in daytime, enjoying both inshore and coastal cruising.

This is an ideal course for those new to motor cruising or just wishing to experience fun on the water for the first time. The course is run over 4 days and is a natural progression from the RYA Dayskipper Theory Course.

The focus is building confidence through good boat handling and pilotage skills; together with this you will be introduced toelectronic navigational aids such as GPS and radar, which are now virtually standard equipment on most modern motor cruisers.

What’s included: Capital will provide you with 4 days of instruction operating from our base at Lymington Yacht Haven. The course fees are fully inclusive,all running costs, fuel, a snack lunch and lighton-board refreshments are provided. All courses are run using our training boat Lady Emma a twin engine Nelson 34; she has wide side decks and is a semi displacement cruiser renowned for excellent sea-keeping abilities.  Her modern up-to-date electronic navigation aids, provide the user with a 21st century experience.

Capital will provide each student with a navigation pack for the duration of the course including:

  • Up to date charts of the area
  • A current almanac
  • Navigation plotter, dividers and reference books
  • An i pad for easy access to on board electronic navigation and radar

Location: All our training courses will operate from Lymington Yacht Haven,Lymington; this location is ideal as we use the protected waters of the Solent. Secure parking is available on site for the duration of your course and local accommodation can be found close by.

Course content: During the RYA Dayskipper course we will provide guidance and advice on the following:

  • boat handling and close quarters manoeuvring in a variety of conditions
  • passage planning
  • anchoring
  • an introduction to electronic navigation aids
  • safety and distress procedures including man-overboard recovery
  • understanding weather and tidal constraints, when to go and when not to go

Increased skills and confidence in all areas.

A relaxed and competent skills-base resulting in more enjoyable cruising.

An appreciation of the skills and knowledge required to skipper a motor cruiser by day in local waters
